DQM will be releasing its Summer 16 footwear collection in collaboration with Vans this Saturday, June 18th. Back to the beginning: skateboarding 101. As the sport of skateboarding was still emerging in the early 80s, its fashion was influenced by the colors and style of the times more than any specific skateboarding culture in and of itself: bright colors, bold fabrics and flashy graphics, and in NYC specifically, basketball style, tony sports culture, hip-hop style. Skateboarding in the 80s was owned by skateboarders; skateboard companies were run by skateboarders, and a feeling of youth and completely free expression permeated skateboarding fashion, there was no other marketing agenda.
Vans Vault and Taka Hayashi have continued their collaborative efforts with the release of the Buffalo Trail LX. Inspired by an early 80’s, original Vans silhouette, the Buffalo Trail blends retro-runner styling with buffalo boot construction. Available in black and taupe, the Buffalo Trail shares similar outsole construction to a work boot with it’s stacked leather wedge seen in the heel, EVA midsole and Vibram® ripple sole bottom plate. Leather, nubuck, and suede add to the premium construction, both outside and inside the shoe. The TH Buffalo Trail LX is now available at The General.
The collaborative efforts between Vans Vault and Japanese artist/designer, Taka Hayashi, continue this season with the release of the Nomad collection.
Known for his expert craftsmanship, keen sense of detail, and Native-American influence, Hayashi has intricately cut into black and vegetable-tanned leather to create a cascading, perforated pattern. Featured in the collection are the Slip Nomad LX and Sk8 Nomad LX, each with tonal stitching and premium leather construction. Available in-store this Saturday, May 21st at The General New York.
Vault by Vans releases the Lite LX Collection, with a featherweight feel combined with premium construction. Including the iconic silhouettes of the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool, and Slip-On, each with its own mark in skateboarding history, the collection fuses high-quality leather and Vans’ Ultracush Lite+ technology in tonal earth shades of moon rock, marshmallow, and blue nights. The feather-weight Collection is now available at The General.
A Sk8-Hi Slim has just arrived from Vans Classics, featuring a leather upper with a die-cut star print pattern in each quarter panel. Available in black and true white, the Sk8-Hi’s are finished with matching flat cotton laces and black outsoles. Now available for women at The General.
